My usual haircut experience has been put to shame. As soon as I stepped into Rumors Salon & Spa the reception staff treated me like I was a queen. It was clear that the most important thing to them was my happiness. I was escorted from the front retail area into an immaculate waiting area where I was offered a beverage (heck yes!) I asked for a glass of water and was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was infused with lemons poured into a Rumors monogrammed glass. At this moment, I knew I didn’t just step into your typical Joe Schmoe’s barber shop (sorry if this is anyone’s go-to place – but you don’t know what you’re missing!).
My hair stylist took me into the consultation area (yes, a specific room just for consultations) to discuss what I wanted and offered her suggestions. We decided to keep it simple and just do a trim (boring, I know, but I need to grow out my hair!) She brought me into the washing room that was kept toasty warm by a fireplace. I was seated, had a foot rest put under my feet, and my stylist started to wash my hair (that’s an experience in itself – the head massage is perfection). I felt like royalty, if they were going to keep this up I was never going to leave. She used a shampoo called Awaken by Surface hair. It made my head tingle (in a good way!), and I loved it! After she was finished washing my hair we went to her station to get down to business.
As she was trimming my hair, we had a lovely conversation, she remembered everything I had said since the beginning of the appointment; it was comforting to know that she really listened to me. Best of all, she asked me several times throughout the appointment if what she was doing was what I wanted and made sure I understood what she was doing. And I couldn’t believe my ears when I was mid-haircut, I was asked if I’d like a beverage, alcoholic or non-alcoholic (who can say no to a delicious martini while they’re getting beautified). They even have menus if you’re hankering a Caesar Salad from Tala (this is out of this world!).
After the trim, she asked if it was okay to style it (I was going out tonight anyways!) I know very little about the beauty world so I didn’t know what products I should use in the future to make my hair look like it did when she did it (which I could never master – but please teach me, Obie Wan Kenobi). She took the time to explain what products she used, how I can use them at home, and the different techniques to use.
All in all, I left Rumors extremely positive. I felt great and it was one of the best haircut experiences of my life. The more I try the more excited and anxious I am to come back and try something new. Who knows, maybe next time I will change my hair color or get a facial (the possibilities are endless!). In my experience so far, Rumors couldn’t have a more perfect or fitting tagline: Get Royally Gorgeous.
